FROM THE SANDBOX…

1200 by Jeff Hess

RN Clara Hart: I went back to work today after taking a few months off for some much-needed “rest and recovery”. I decided to try two days a week, and strictly on a temporary basis. As I walked down the hallway, my footsteps echoing, I wondered what the day would bring. My hand tapped the silver button on the wall and the pneumatic doors opened with a…

YOU EITHER KISS HIS ASS… OR YOU’RE A TERRORIST…

1055 by Jeff Hess

Andrew Sullivan links this morning to a post concerning one Walter F. Murphy, proud Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War with 5 years on active duty and 19 years in the reserves. All that time and dedication to his country went down the sewer, however, the moment Murphy disagreed with President George Bush.

“On 1 March 07, I was scheduled to fly on American Airlines to Newark, NJ, to attend an academic conference at Princeton University, designed to focus on my latest scholarly book, Constitutional Democracy, published by Johns Hopkins University Press this past Thanksgiving.”

“When I tried to use the curb-side check in at the Sunport, I was denied a boarding pass because I was on the Terrorist Watch list. I was instructed to go inside and talk to a clerk. At this point, I should note that I am not only the McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence (emeritus) but also a retired Marine colonel. I fought in the Korean War as a young lieutenant, was wounded, and decorated for heroism. I remained a professional soldier for more than five years and then accepted a commission as a reserve office, serving for an additional 19 years.”

“I presented my credentials from the Marine Corps to a very polite clerk for American Airlines. One of the two people to whom I talked asked a question and offered a frightening comment: “Have you been in any peace marches? We ban a lot of people from flying because of that.” I explained that I had not so marched but had, in September, 2006, given a lecture at Princeton, televised and put on the Web, highly critical of George Bush for his many violations of the Constitution. “That’ll do it,” the man said.”

This is what we’re being protected from. Not real terrorists who threaten our lives, but political dissenters who exercise the rights guaranteed in our most precious document: our Constitution.

“I have a personal stake here, but so do all Americans who take their political system seriously. Thus I hope you and your colleagues will take some positive action to bring the Administration’s conduct to the attention of a far larger, and more influential, audience than I could hope to reach. “

I’ve done my small part here. Pass it forward.

MONA’S MONDAY…

0800 by Jeff Hess

My dad isn’t the only one who sends me fun stuff via email. A good friend and educational mentor also routinely passes along her share of chuckles — intermixed with not a few requests for veracity on things viral and outrageous. Don’t worry, there still plenty of stuff to come From My Dad but occasionally I’ll toss a few of Mona’s finds in as well.

Doctor Bloom who was known for miraculous cures for arthritis had a waiting room full of people when a little old lady, completely bent over in half, shuffled in slowly, leaning on her cane. When her turn came, she went into the doctor’s office, and, amazingly, emerged within half an hour walking completely erect with her head held high.

A woman in the waiting room who had seen all this walked up to the little old lady and said, “It’s a miracle! You walked in bent in half and now you’re walking erect. What did that doctor do?”

She answered, “Miracle, shmiracle . . . he gave me a longer cane.

FROM MY CHAPBOOK…

0400 by Jeff Hess

My name is Jeff Hess and I’m a biblioholic. I own hundreds of books. Not valuable books, mostly Science Fiction paperbacks and text books, tomes rescued by the bag from library book sales. A few years ago, in the interest of not burying myself, I began reading more books from the library and taking notes. My electronic chapbook was born.

This is a passage I copied from The Courage to Write: How Writers Transcend Fear by Ralph Keyes.

…the question remains, “How could you even think the things you wrote about?” The corollary to that question is, “I”m not sure how I feel about someone who has thoughts like that.” p. 72

MUCKING OUT THE BLOGPILE…

I’m constantly tossing interesting websites into what I call my blogpile. Some of them find their way here in the form of regular posts, but more often than not they languish and get buried deeper in the pile. The end result is that I have to go back and do a bit of shoveling. Today’s item is White Rabbit.

Remember the ’60s? Then you weren’t there.

FROM MY DAD…

I could never bring myself to forward all the email jokes, cartoons and other Internet comedy that land in my inbox. But then I started posting the ones my dad sends me. Judging from my comments and emails, my dad has become one of my greatest blogging assets. So for your morning blog chuckle I present: From My Dad.

I found this beautiful winter poem and thought it might be a comfort to you.
It was to me, and it’s very well written. Enjoy!

SANDBOX DUTY OFFICER David Stanford: They’re some of the most powerful pictures of war, taken not by professional cameramen, but by soldiers themselves. There’s no way to track the number of video and still cameras attached to helmets, rifles, inside Humvees or on Stryker turrets. What is clear: storytelling is no longer just a journalist’s domain….

Don’t get involved with the Clintons, you may end up shooting your self;or get shot

Food for Thought: Just a quick refresher course lest we forget what has happened to many “friends”of the Clintons.

1 James McDougal – Clinton’s convicted Whitewater partner died of an apparent heart attack, while in solitary confinement. He was a key witness in Ken Starr’s investigation.

2 Mary Mahoney – A former White House intern was murdered July 1997 at a Starbucks Coffee Shop in Georgetown. The murder happened just after she was to go public with her story of sexual harassment in the White House.

3 Vince Foster – Former White House councilor, and colleague of Hillary Clinton at Little Rock’s Rose Law firm. Died of a gunshot wound to the head, ruled a suicide.

4 Ron Brown – Secretary of Commerce and former DNC Chairman. Reported to have died by impact in a plane crash. A pathologist close to the investigation reported that there was a hole in the top of Brown’s skull resembling a gunshot wound. At the time of his death Brown was being investigated, and spoke publicly of his willingness to cut a deal with prosecutors. The rest of the people on the plane also died. A few days later the air Traffic controller commited suicide.

5 C. Victor Raiser II – Raiser, a major player in the Clinton fund raising organization died in a private plane crash in July 1992.

7 Ed Willey – Clinton fund raiser, found dead November 1993 deep in the woods in VA of a gunshot wound to the head. Ruled a suicide. Ed Willey died on the same day his wife Kathleen Willey claimed Bill Clinton groped her in the oval office in the White House. Ed Willey was involved in several Clinton fund raising events.

8 Jerry Parks – Head of Clinton’s gubernatorial security team in Little Rock. Gunned down in his car at a deserted intersection outside Little Rock. Park’s son said his father was building a dossier on Clinton. He allegedly threatened to reveal this information. After he died the files were mysteriously removed from his house.

9 James Bunch – Died from a gunshot suicide. It was reported that he had a “Black Book” of people which contained names of influential people who visited prostitutes in Texas and Arkansas.

10 James Wilson – Was found dead in May 1993 from an apparent hanging suicide. He was reported to have ties to Whitewater.

11 Kathy Ferguson – Ex-wife of Arkansas Trooper Danny Ferguson, was found dead in May 1994, in her living room with a gunshot to her head. It was ruled a suicide even though there were several packed suitcases, as if she were g oing somewhere. Danny Ferguson was a co-defendant along with Bill Clinton in the Paula Jones lawsuit. Kathy Ferguson was a possible corroborating witness for Paula Jones.

12 Bill Shelton – Arkansas State Trooper and fiancee of Kathy Ferguson. Critical of the suicide ruling of his fiancee, he was found dead in June, 1994 of a gunshot wound also ruled a suicide at the grave site of his fiancee.

38 Sgt. Brian Hanley

39 Sgt. Tim Sabel

40 Major General William Robertson

41 Col. William Densberger

42 Col. Robert Kelly

43 Spec. Gary Rhodes

44 Steve Willis

45 Robert Williams

46 Conway LeBleu

47 Todd McKeehan

Obviously the radical fright and the religious wrong, along with their NEO/Theocon lackies have been very busy. Since they couldn’t get to the real target of their insane hatred — Bill and Hillary Clinton — they have had to satisfy themselves with cruelly murdering those around them. Can this Cabal of Evil every be stopped?

Writing about others and risking their wrath takes one type of courage. Writing from within – as [Sherri] Szeman did [in The Kommandant”s Mistress] – takes another. Unlike the more conscious fear of others, anxiety about our inner world tends to be repressed.

It often shows up in disguise. The most common disguise is fear of them, their opinions of us, when it”s actually our own opinion of ourselves that we”re worried about. In psychological terms, much of our fear about the reaction of others is a projection of our own anxieties. p. 65
