ROLDO RIGHTS…

Roldo Bartimole writes:

The realization that the school children of Cleveland subsidize the lifestyle of Browns owners Randy Lerner is testimony to our times. Let the wealthy get wealthier. Let the poor get poorer.

It’s one of the most disgusting examples of wealth living off poverty. It goes uncontested by columnists, by politicians, by our sharp news media outlets.

Mayor Jackson, the Plain Dealer and civic leaders as Ronn Richard of the Cleveland Foundation and Joe Roman of the Greater Cleveland Partnership – in other words the servants of the rich — want more attention paid to school teachers and their pay and working privileges (see my last posting).

Privilege, however, thy name is Lerner.

The Wall Street Journal has been tracking the use of private jet planes and how they are used by the wealthy. Of course, you pay for this too as corporations write the cost off as an expense.

The national business newspaper zeroes in on Randy Lerner’s jet and its travels particularly to the Hamptons. But to more exotic places too Continue Reading »

ROLDO RIGHTS…

Roldo Bartimole writes:

The Plain Dealer gave me a sour stomach Sunday. That’s not too unusual. This time it was particularly sour.

I had to read letters to the editor in the Plain Dealer from Cleveland Foundation’s Ronn Richards and Greater Cleveland Partnership’s Joe Roman. Both were applauding Mayor Frank Jackson’s double-dealing on the Cleveland school teachers.

No wonder there. Hadn’t they given the mayor orders to do exactly that? I think I’d bet on it. So they cheer themselves. Not unusual.

Jackson — an opponent of Gov. John Kasich’s SB 5, we’re told — urged state Republicans to give him the same powers for the Cleveland school system as SB 5 does. Does he think that passes the smell test?

It once again shows that mayoral control of the Cleveland schools does not work honestly.

The hypocrisy of the PD is clearly evident Continue Reading »

ROLDO RIGHTS…

0709 by Jeff Hess

Roldo Bartimole writes:

It takes courage for a newspaper to monitor the police. Gabriel Baird and Henry Gomez are following the activities of the Cleveland Police and its Chief Michael McGrath on reviews of possible police misbehavior. Very important material.

They note that “in all 37 cases” of possible misbehavior the Plain Dealer examined, the chief or his deputy “blessed the use of force.” That tests credulity. It sounds more as saying the hell to citizens and their complaints.

This kind of behavior goes to the top. Mayor Frank Jackson needs to explain how it is never the fault of the police in these cases. The Chief needs to answer more fully to how these decisions were made.

ROLDO RIGHTS…

Roldo Bartimole writes:

My, my.

Is the Plain Dealer feeling guilty? It should be.

A Sunday editorial took Gov. John Kasich to task. They don’t like what he is doing. Big surprise.

Wasn’t he their choice for Governor? Of course he was. The same PD editors last year gave him the nod over Ted Strickland who wasn’t doing such a bad job at all. Indeed, some of his decisions are looking rather good right now as Ohio’s economy perks a bit. You just don’t forgive a mistake as that.

Now the same editors say that “…ever since Kasich laid out his spending plans for the next two years, it has been apparent that Continue Reading »
