this letter reminds me of two things: one, the short-lived “welcome to loserville, population: you” antismoking billboard campaign a few years back. what exactly did polensek hope to accomplish by publicly trash-talking this guy? he certainly couldn’t have thought that would somehow make mr. winston want to reform his ways?
the other thing it reminds of is the hopefully moribund assertion that women shouldn’t participate in government because their hormonal cycles tend to make them hysterical, and god, we couldn’t have our elected officials going off half-cocked.
uh huh.
Shalom Christine,
That’s true. Your absolutely correct.
B’shalom,
Jeff
Wow. I’m speechless.
Shalom Lori,
That is, I’m sure, a temporary condition.
B’shalom,
Jeff
I emphasize with his frustration as a resident but Polensek isn’t just another resident. I’m amazed he, Fannie Lewis and Zack Reed are still around.
Shalom Cubejockey,
Are there reasons other than inertia that that trio remains in office?
B’shalom,
Jeff
i think it makes sense that these politicians are still around…i dont feel that this letter is necessarily an effective solution for the situaition, i think it might speak truthfully to the frustrations and anger of the ward residents.
Shalom Molly,
That’s true. You’re absolutely right.
But the frustration is targeted in the wrong direction.
Arsenio Winston is not the problem. He’s a symptom.
The combination of society, environmental and political factors that created Winston are the disease.
That does not mean I think Winston souled not have been arrested and, if convicted, should not be put in prison.
What it means is that cursing Winston and his ilk will not solve anything.
As a political leader Polensek and his fellow leaders ought to be focused on solutions rather than even justifiable rants and catering to their wealthy corporate masters.
B’shalom,
Jeff
Unintelligent, unprofessional, unbelievable…yet sadly believable.
Shalom Anni,
First, thank you for stopping in, for reading and, most importantly, for taking the time to write a comment. It’s all about the conversation.
Second, I can only add: indeed.
B’shalom,
Jeff
i suppose he’s expressing his…um…art?
i’m just curious if mr. winston was able to interpret its deeper meaning.
christine, molly, and anni, i couldn’t agree more.
Shalom Burns,
First, thank you for stopping in, for reading and, most importantly, for taking the time to leave a comment. It’s all about the conversation.
I’m not sure any of the parties involved understand the deeper meaning. How might you wish to enlighten them?
B’shalom,
Jeff
I tell you!!! The nerve of some Mothers! I hope I dont bite my tongue later with my sons..but the kid needs the apron strings cut a little. It sounds that this is WHY he has kept doing this, because MOM will wipe it up. Now, the dumb as mud statement..I can see someone stating that. Where I would disagree with the statement, is addicts are not dumb..they dont know any better and thats all they know is the life of crime and drugs! They just need guidance. Maybe a long term treatment facility? Jail is only going to make this person more street smart and a record, harder to find jobs and return to the street to make ends meet. Viscious cycle! Give the young man the tools to reach out of this horrible lifestyle and maybe they can save him. But, in the end, its up to him and he needs to change “places, things and playmates!” But, I do believe a longterm treatment would be much more effective for someone in this situation. Retrain the “stinkin thinking”. BY NO MEANS WOULD I HAVE TAKEN THIS AS A RACIAL STATEMENT! I will give hands up in the whole tactic this congressman is using. But, maybe the “dumb” thing could have been worded differently!
Much love and prayers to the young man and the judge that reads his confiction!

Councilman Polensek clearly struck a nerve when he expressed his frustration.
B’shalom,
Jeff
