I wonder what his lecture on the Road Runner and Tweety Bird would sound like.

    S**t.

  2. Jeff Hess says:

    Shalom Jill,

I was actually more upset by the placid faces of those in the audience dutifully taking notes.

    B’shalom,

    Jeff

  3. That’s the first time I’ve heard Spiegelman’s epic mentioned in a long time. Right on.

  4. Jeff Hess says:

    Shalom George,

Spiegelman is a regular on my re-read list.

    B’shalom,

    Jeff

  5. molly says:

    whos speigelman?

  6. Jeff Hess says:

    Shalom Molly,

Art Spiegelman is the son of a survivor father who chose to tell his father’s story (and his own) in graphic novel form. He won a Pulitizer in 1992 for Maus.

    B’shalom,

    Jeff

Yes, I can see that – but we do need to remember, what else do they know – should they be questioning him – are they allowed to question him – what happens to those who question. Not defending, of course – but you and I find questioning second nature. It’s allowed, even if fought. But is it based in reality to think that they know about questioning? Maybe – I just don’t know.

  8. Jeff Hess says:

    Shalom Jill,

Yes, all of that makes it even more disturbing because of Persia/Iran’s history of open scholarship and critical thinking.

Iran’s own brand of Theocons understand that to survive they have to shut down that aspect of their people’s culture.

I do think there is a good chance that history will win out.

Freedom (and free thought) is a tough dijini to get back into the bottle.

    B’shalom,

    Jeff
