ANDREW SULLIVAN VS. SAM HARRIS…
January 17th, 2007
I know what I’m going to be reading with great intensity this evening: a blogalogue between Andrew Sullivan and Sam Harris. Harris, for those unfamiliar with his work is the author of The End of Faith, a book I highly recommend, and Letter To A Christian Nation, which I have yet to read. So many books and so little time.

I too am following the debate between Sam and Andrew closely, one because I am an Andrew Sullivan fan, and two because each have shown themselves thus far to be worthy opponent to the other. I am an active Christian, and I am (I would like to think), like Andrew, a moderate Christian. But I have to give it up to Sam–he’s dead right on a number of things, and he gets me thinking, which is always good. Game on!
Shalom Andy,
First, thank you for stopping in, for reading and, most importantly, for taking the time to write a comment. It’s all about the conversation.
I am also an Andrew Sullivan fan, but Harris’ writing has shifted my thinking.
For years I’ve tried to reason that moderate religionists had a place in the world, but Harris has made me think that their tolerance makes the fanatics possible.
I’m going to hold my overall comments until the blogalogue is finished.
B’shalom,
Jeff
